Today was the first day of classes and the opening of another school year on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. Spirit and enthusiasm for one’s college of choice is never higher than that first day on campus for a college freshman or a recently matriculated junior college transfer.
The anticipation of what the new year will bring with making new friends, facing new challenges and the possibility of maybe joining a fraternity/sorority make this one of the most exciting times in a college student’s life. Unfortunately the prospect of going to a real college football tailgate and attending their first football game will be an experience forever lost on this year’s crop of incoming students at Cal State Fullerton.
Since starting this effort to Bring Back Titan Football, we have received numerous emails from incoming students asking why their university of choice does not play football. Many are bewildered when they find out that those visions they had of Saturday afternoons spent tailgating and rooting on the Titans will not be a reality in their first year at college. Sadly since 1993, the first fall semester the Titans did not play football, countless numbers of freshman and new student transfers did not get what I would like to call, “the complete college experience”.
Whether you are a football fan or not, you have to admit that not even having the opportunity to go to a football game of your own college leaves a hole in the college experience. With each incoming freshman class that is denied that opportunity, we run the risk of increased student apathy and a lack of pride in where they attend college. That’s why it is so important to continue this effort to Bring Back Titan Football.
It has become increasingly frustrating for me, being a student at CSUF, not having a football team. I’m from the Mideast where college life surrounds football and it is not college without a team. The only reason I’ve stuck with CSUF is because they offer a very good program for my major. If it weren’t for that I would not have stuck around these years. Bring back Titan Football asap.
Bring back titan football!!!!!!!!
The #2 and #3 QBs at miami u said the are leaving and are looking for a school to play for ! Lets go TITAN FOOTBALL
First, find a 100 million dollars and then you might have enough to bring back football, because your going to have to spend an equal amount on women’s sports that do not generate revenue. Come to think of it, Titan football never generated revenue. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see it happen again before I go home to be with the Lord, but in these economic times, I’m just not optimistic about seeing it happen. Maybe there’s a T.Boone Pickens, or a Phil Knight out there for us. Let’s hope so!
Dr. Milton Gordon can pretty much find an innovative way to tackle any issue at Cal State Fullerton EXCEPT Football. I suppose he really does not care about football which is why he can’t find any solutions…If a university president was truly interested in bringing back ONE sport i’m sure he could figure a way to do it. STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND FIND A WAY!!!
Option #2, we will have to wait for a new president. When Is Milton going to retire??
It’s True it does suck not having a school football team to root for!! Even though we are having rough times in the economy [and school from the furloughs] if we really want something to happen LETS DO IT and start it from the roots with student athletes and spreading the WORD that CSUF wants a Football TEAM!
Yes, Bring Big Time D1 football back to OC. But wait, not only will it cost millions to get the program going again, but the facility of 10,000 would have to be up graded to at least 45,000 just like Fresno and UNLV, which would cost millions also. If someone could get corp. sponcers like the uni pres and his group, maybe it could happen in 3-5 years. Only, like it was mentioned before, maybe they do not care enough to get it started so we are waisting are time. Until you get a pres who cares, this effort is waisted.
Yo what was that bro looking at, that’s nuts
